The Brief
NBA Australia engaged PUP Creative directly to produce a consistent, high-quality social-first content program connecting Australian audiences with the world's premier basketball league. Over an 18-month engagement spanning two NBA seasons, PUP Creative operated across the full production pipeline as cameraman, producer, and editor, delivering a broad and varied content slate across YouTube and social media platforms.
The work centred on Courtside Huddle, an ongoing series built around Australian players in the NBA, exclusive interviews with NBA talent visiting Australia, and content that brought a distinctly local flavour to one of the world's most globally recognised sports leagues.
Courtside Huddle
Courtside Huddle was the flagship series of the NBA Australia content program. Handed the format to execute, PUP Creative produced ongoing episodes covering Australian-based NBA players through finals series, as well as regular season previews, mid-season reviews, and end-of-season reviews that kept Australian audiences connected to the league's storylines throughout the calendar year.
The series featured a rotating panel of Australian basketball voices, with regular contributors including Mitch Creek, Chris Goulding, Bec Allen, Jo Healy, Kane Pittman and Luke Travers, bringing genuine on-court credibility and local perspective to the NBA conversation. Special guest appearances included Nick Kyrgios, reflecting the broad cultural reach of the series beyond the core basketball audience.
Special edition episodes were produced around key NBA moments throughout the engagement, including NBA All-Star Weekend, Summer Jam, the NBA Summer League in the United States, LeBron James breaking the NBA all-time scoring record, new season premieres, and playoff previews. These special editions gave the series a live, responsive quality that kept audiences returning across the full arc of the NBA calendar.
Exclusive Player Interviews
A central element of the NBA Australia content program was exclusive one-on-one interview access with NBA players visiting Australia and with Australian players competing in the league. Interview subjects across the engagement included Seth Curry, Jamal Murray, Dyson Daniels, Dante Exum, Josh Giddey and Josh Green, among others.
These sit-down features gave Australian audiences a level of access to NBA talent that is genuinely rare in the local market, and required the kind of production instinct that makes the most of limited access windows with high-profile athletes.
The series also produced features with Australian basketball legends Andrew Gaze and Brian Goorjian, providing historical context and expert perspective on Australian players and key playoff series throughout the engagement.
Activations and Events
PUP Creative covered NBA-sanctioned activations across Australia as part of the content program, producing social and YouTube content that extended the reach of these events beyond those physically in attendance.
Notable activations included the Hennessy event at Bondi Beach and the floating basketball court on Sydney Harbour, both of which generated significant social content and captured the NBA's growing cultural presence in Australia beyond the game itself.
NBA Jersey Day
Across 2021 and 2022, PUP Creative produced two special NBA Jersey Day features timed to coincide with the release of limited edition NBA jerseys in the Australian market. The features brought in locally sourced Australian designers and stylists to showcase and style the new releases, giving the content a distinctly Australian creative flavour and connecting the NBA's global merchandise program with local fashion and culture.

The Result
The NBA Australia content program delivered consistent, measurable audience engagement across the full 18-month engagement. Individual episodes of Courtside Huddle averaged between 43,000 and 60,000 views, with standout episodes regularly exceeding that range. Across two full NBA seasons, that represents a sustained, loyal audience for Australian basketball content that few local sports productions can match.
The breadth of the content slate, spanning active NBA player interviews, expert panel features, cultural activations, and special edition programming, gave NBA Australia a content program that served audience development, commercial partner activation, and the league's broader cultural growth objectives in the Australian market simultaneously.
For PUP Creative, the NBA Australia engagement demonstrated the ability to operate as a full-service content partner for a globally recognised sports brand over an extended period, delivering consistent quality across a high volume of content without compromising on the standard that a league of the NBA's profile demands.
